Two (2) Competition Levels
- *Academy – Beginner/Intermediate Level
- Extreme – Intermediate/Advanced Level
* If an Academy level routine is judged at 288.1 or higher, they will automatically be moved up to the Extreme level and their score will be adjusted to meet the requirements of Extreme level scoring. In this occurrence, they are still eligible for overall awards in the Extreme Level with their new adjusted score. - Competition levels are chosen at the Studio Director’s Discretion
Age Categories

- Mini; 6 & under
- Petite; 7-9
- Junior; 10-12
- Teen; 13-15
- Senior; 16-19
- Adult; 20 & over
Performance Categories
- The following categories can contain no “tricks”: Ballet, Pointe
Tricks are movements that pass through or stop in an upside down position with both feet off the floor. (Exceptions: forward, backward and shoulder rolls.)
Lifts are permitted.

- Acro Dance: A routine using controlled moves such as walkovers, limbers, handstands, etc. Can contain gymnastic passes. Can contain flexibility or contortionist moves. Must contain dance moves, steps and choreography.
- Acro/Gymnastics: A routine using aerials, handsprings, etc but must contain some dance connection. Recommended for stronger tumblers.
- Ballet: Routine must consist of ballet technique. Must include classical steps and movements. No pointe shoes allowed. No tricks allowed. Proper footwear required.
- Character: A routine portraying a recognizable character throughout. Can be from a play, movie, television, musical, or a stereotype such as a cowboy, movie star, etc. Can be any style of dance.
- Clogging: Routine using clogging technique and style.
- Contemporary: Routine incorporated lyrical or jazz movement fused with modern elements. Tricks are allowed in this category.
- Hip Hop: Routine consisting primarily of hip hop technique. Please be advised that music with inappropriate lyrics will be scored lower by judges or possibly disqualified.
- Jazz: Routine must contain primarily jazz technique. A maximum of 2 tricks are permitted.
- Lyrical: Routine should demonstrate balance, extension and control utilizing the lyrics or mood of the music. A maximum of 2 tricks are permitted.
- Modeling: Party dress, sportswear, evening gown. No swimsuit. Performer must provide own music.
- Musical Theatre: Routine featuring any style of dance interpreting a song from a Broadway show or movie musical.
- Open: Any of our listed categories or combinations of listed category styles.
- Pointe: Routine must consist of pointe/toe technique. No tricks allowed. Proper footwear required.
- Tap: Routine must contain tap technique and primarily tap work.
- Variety Arts: Baton, Pom Pon, Performance Art, Contortion, Magic, Circus Arts, Folkloric, Cheerleading, Pantomime, Lip Sync, Song and Dance, Ethnic
- Vocal: Vocal presentation. No words, except background vocals, in music.
